All LSC coaches are qualified and hold current Enhanced DBS certificates. Our programme is built on Long Term Athlete Development principles.
My journey with Leatherhead Swimming Club began when I joined as a 7 year old way back in 1993, starting with the club's learn to swim programme.
As a youngster, I qualified and competed at a number of County and Regional Championships, often finding great success in freestyle, backstroke and butterfly events. I progressed to qualify for National and British Championships, including a Commonwealth and Olympics trial.
My attention turned to coaching in my mid-teens, securing my ASA Level 1 and Level 2 Teaching certification, allowing me to work with some of LSC's junior swimmers whilst continuing my own training. Having passed my Level 1 and Level 2 Coaching awards, in 2008 I headed up my own squad for the first time.
In 2009 I started my new role as Assistant Head Coach, alongside newly appointed Head Coach, David Vine. This was my first opportunity to solely create a programme designed to develop the club's elite young swimmers. Progressing as a coach, I achieved the highest coaching qualification available, the Swim England Senior Coach Certificate.
Throughout this time, I have coached swimmers to success at County, Regional and National level, placing a number of swimmers on Swim England Development Programmes. As a result, I have been given opportunities to participate as part of the coaching setup on these Swim England Programmes, taking on roles such as County and Regional head coach.
More recently, I was accepted as one of 24 coaches across all aquatics disciplines to be part of Swim England's Pathway Coach Programme, a programme to help me develop further as a coach.
In 2017, I joined the coaching team at ACS International School, Cobham. Being at an international school, I have had the opportunity to work with a wide number of athletes stemming from a range of different backgrounds and with different achievements at National and International level.
This provided me with the opportunity to attend the recent World Championships, in Budapest, as the lead coach for the island nation of Turks and Caicos.
As a coach, I strive to pass on my knowledge and experiences as a swimmer on to any athlete I work with, so that they can unlock their full potential.
I am looking forward to seeing this club continue to grow and am excited about what the future holds.

Swim Teachers
Our qualified swim teachers
Our swim teachers work across the Academy and lower development squads, delivering structured, progressive and enjoyable sessions. All hold current Swim England teaching qualifications and Enhanced DBS certificates.
Qualified
All teachers hold current Level 1 or Level 2 Teaching qualifications through Swim England or the STA.
Wavepower Qualified
All hold current Wavepower safeguarding certification.
DBS Checked
All teachers and assistants hold current Enhanced DBS clearance.
First Aid on Site
There is always someone with current first aid qualifications on site during sessions.
Club Governance
Our Committee
What is the Committee?
Leatherhead Swimming Club is a members club, which means it is run by and on behalf of all the members of the club. It is managed by the Committee — an elected body which manages and organises the day-to-day running of the club in accordance with the club rules, and in partnership with the Head Coach, the development of the club's long-term aims and objectives.
The Committee meets approximately every six weeks to discuss matters relating to the club and makes decisions on behalf of the membership. The Head Coach, Membership Secretary, Welfare Officer and Accounts & Finance Officer also attend Committee meetings.
Who is on the Committee?
At LSC the Committee is made up of the Chairperson, Club Secretary and Club Treasurer — who together form the 'Executive Committee' — plus up to 4 other Committee members. The Committee are nominated and elected at the Annual General Meeting for a period of 2 years.
Members of the Committee are all unpaid volunteers, usually parents of swimmers, who want to ensure all members receive the best possible experience while at LSC.

The Club Chairperson is the principal officer for the club with responsibility for overseeing the day-to-day running of the club.
- Provides direction and leadership to the club
- Ensures correct running according to constitution and Swim England rules
- Manages internal disputes and discipline processes
- Chairs Committee meetings and sets agendas
- Oversees SwimMark accreditation process
- Liaises with Head Coach on coaching matters
Chloe Irwin
The Club Secretary supports the day-to-day running of the club by providing a key point of contact for administration and communication.
- Acts as main point of contact for the club
- Organises Committee meetings and Annual General Meeting
- Prepares agendas, takes minutes and distributes communications
- Maintains knowledge of club constitution and policies
- Maintains contact details of all members and key personnel
Mark Palmer
As a family we have been with LSC for the last seven years, with Rafi currently swimming in the National Development Squad. I have been on the LSC Committee for 5 years, initially as a Member and for the last 3 years as Treasurer. I'm also a qualified 'Judge 1' so enjoy helping out at galas.

Committee Member & Membership SecretaryLooks after new and existing member records, helps with onboarding new families, and is usually the first point of contact for membership queries.

Any club member over 18 can be elected as a Committee member. Being on the Committee is a fantastic opportunity to enhance the experience of all swimmers and influence the future direction of the club.

Volunteer with LSC
The Committee are supported by various sub-committees — such as the Gala Committee and Social Committee — who oversee specific activities for the club, and a huge number of parent volunteers who undertake a variety of roles to support the smooth running of the club.
If being on the Committee is not for you, there are many other ways you can support the club. Each year there are a variety of roles that require filling. No prior knowledge, skills or experience is required!
Timekeepers
Timekeepers play a crucial role at swimming galas, recording accurate times for each race. Training is provided for new timekeepers — a great way to get involved and support the club at competitions.
Judges
Qualified judges ensure fair competition during galas. Becoming a judge requires Swim England training and certification. We can provide information about courses and support your development as an official.
Referees
Our referees oversee galas to ensure races are conducted fairly and in line with Swim England rules.
Team Managers
Our dedicated team managers support swimmers at competitions and events, ensuring everything runs smoothly on the day.

Annual General Meeting (AGM)
The Annual General Meeting (AGM) is held every year, typically in the autumn term. This is an important event where club members can participate in the running of the club.
What Happens at the AGM?
- Review the club's financial reports and accounts
- Discuss the club's activities and achievements from the past year
- Vote on important club matters and policies
- Elect Committee members for the coming year
- Raise questions and provide feedback on club operations
- Discuss plans and goals for the upcoming year
Who Can Attend?
All club members are welcome and encouraged to attend the AGM. This is your opportunity to have your say in how the club is run and to understand more about its operations.

Getting Involved
If you're interested in standing for election to the Committee, nominations are typically requested a few weeks before the AGM. Any club member over 18 can stand — no prior experience required!
